Businesses invited to have their say at BID consultation

Companies from across Birmingham’s Southside area are being invited to have their say on the future of the business improvement district (BID) at a special consultation briefing.

Ahead of the BID’s re-ballot in November, Southside BID is inviting firms from across all sectors to meet and talk with the BID team and board directors at one of three events being held on Monday 27th April. The events will see representatives discuss the successes of the BID since its inception in 2011 as well as plans for the future. Business people will also be asked for their views on the BID and what they would want to be done if a second term is achieved.

Formed in April 2011 Southside BID is one of five city centre business improvement districts. As independent business-led organisations, the BIDS are committed to delivering services additional to those provided by public authorities within a defined area.

Julia Chance, Southside BID manager, said: ““The consultation event on the 27th April will allow businesses to have their say on the BID and what they would like to happen in BID 2 following the re-ballot. Feedback from businesses so far has been incredibly positive and we’re hopeful that the vote in November will be a yes.

“Southside BID has achieved so much in its four year term, from helping businesses with funding and grants and supporting events such as Birmingham Pride and Summer In Southside, right through to security in the area and street cleaning.

“As local authorities continue to face extensive budget cuts, BIDs will be vital in providing businesses with the support they need to both grow their organisation and tackle issues which they face, whatever they may be.

“Southside is the most diverse district in the city centre, encompassing not only a broad range of business sectors but also nationalities. With Chinatown at its heart, the district has played a key role in securing overseas investment and will continue to do so for many years to come.

The Southside BID Consultation event is being held in Birmingham Hippodrome’s PWC Suite on Monday 27th April. To enable as many businesses to have their say as possible, there will be three identical events taking place throughout the day at 7.30am, 12.30pm and 5.30pm. Each event lasts approximately 90 minutes.
